be able to 強(qiáng)調(diào)通過(guò)努力而獲得的能力，而can則強(qiáng)調(diào)自身已具有的能力。be able to 強(qiáng)調(diào)一種結(jié)果，而can只強(qiáng)調(diào)一種可能。be able to 可以有各種時(shí)態(tài)；而can只有一般現(xiàn)在和一般過(guò)去兩種時(shí)態(tài)。can可用于表示可能性，推測(cè)，允許等情況，而be able to通常不這樣用。

be able to和can含義的不同

這一點(diǎn)不同主要集中在過(guò)去時(shí)中，could 表示“能夠”，was / were able to 表示“得以做成”，即后者的動(dòng)作完成了，前者只是一種可能性。

He could leave Europe before the Second World War. 他在二戰(zhàn)開(kāi)始前能離開(kāi)歐洲。（有沒(méi)有離開(kāi)，不知道）
