“not…until”句型是英語(yǔ)中常用的一種結(jié)構(gòu)，用于表示某個(gè)動(dòng)作或狀態(tài)一直持續(xù)到某個(gè)時(shí)間點(diǎn)才發(fā)生變化。其基本結(jié)構(gòu)為“主語(yǔ)+助動(dòng)詞/情態(tài)動(dòng)詞+not+動(dòng)詞原形+until+從句”，意為“直到……才……”。

not until的倒裝與強(qiáng)調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)，not until通常與非延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞連用，強(qiáng)調(diào)主句所表示的狀態(tài)或情景從until所表示的時(shí)間才發(fā)生，主句必須是否定句。

1、當(dāng)Not until位于句首時(shí)，句子要倒裝。其結(jié)構(gòu)為：Not until+從句/表時(shí)間的詞+助動(dòng)詞+（主句）主語(yǔ)+謂語(yǔ)。

Not until the teacher came in did the students stop talking.

直到老師進(jìn)來(lái)學(xué)生們才停止講話。

2、not until的強(qiáng)調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)為：It is/was not until+從句/表時(shí)間的詞+that。

not...until的基本含義是“直到...才”，"在...以前不"。

not...until的三種用法有：基本結(jié)構(gòu)、強(qiáng)調(diào)句結(jié)構(gòu)、倒裝句結(jié)構(gòu)。

基本結(jié)構(gòu)：not主句+until+從句

例句：

We did not get off the busuntil it stopped.

強(qiáng)調(diào)句結(jié)構(gòu)：It is / was not until+從句/表時(shí)間的詞+that+主句

1、not until 后邊一般是時(shí)間點(diǎn)，如：

It was not until midnight that it stopped raining. 直到半夜雨才停下來(lái)。

It was not until five o'clock in the afternoon that they finished their work. 直到下午五點(diǎn)他們才完成工作。

2、not until 后邊也可以是陳述的句子，如：

It was not until he came to China that he realized the great change in recent decades. 直到他來(lái)到中國(guó)，他才意識(shí)到最近幾十年的巨大變化。

It was not until he got sick seriously that he realized the value of a healthy body. 直到他生重病，他才意識(shí)到一個(gè)健康體魄的價(jià)值。

3、not until 后邊還可跟介詞短語(yǔ)，如：

It was not until after Friday that I got his reply. 直到星期五之后，我才得到他的答復(fù)。

我們可以注意到，在以上列舉的例句中，“It is/was not until .... that 從句”句式中的“that 從句”部分都是采用一般的陳述語(yǔ)序(類似于賓語(yǔ)從句)。時(shí)態(tài)上一般采用過(guò)去時(shí)，與 it was 相呼應(yīng)。

倒裝句結(jié)構(gòu)：Not until+從句+倒轉(zhuǎn)的主句（主倒從不倒）
