the number of表示“……的數(shù)量”，作主語(yǔ)的中心詞時(shí)，謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用單數(shù)形式；a number of表示“若干的，許多的”，起修飾作用，相當(dāng)于many或a lot of，a number of+復(fù)數(shù)可數(shù)名詞作主語(yǔ)時(shí)，其謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用復(fù)數(shù)形式。

the number of和a number of的區(qū)別

1、意思上不同。a number of表示“許多”，相當(dāng)于 many；the number of表示“……的數(shù)量”。

2、中心詞不同。a number of+名詞做主語(yǔ)時(shí)中心詞是所加的名詞；the number of+名詞做主語(yǔ)時(shí)中心詞是number。

2、the number of：The number of介詞of同其后名詞構(gòu)成介詞短語(yǔ)，修飾the number，當(dāng)它作主語(yǔ)時(shí)，謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用單數(shù)。
