prefer最常見的意思是"寧可"、"寧愿(選擇)"、"比較喜歡"、"更喜歡"等,多指在兩個或兩個以上的選項中優(yōu)先選擇其中的一項,多用于prefer...to...或prefer...rather than結(jié)構(gòu),相當(dāng)于like better 或place before the others,因此不能用more或most來修飾它。引申可表示為“寧可”“寧愿”等。

prefer的用法

1、prefer A to B

例句：

I prefer the original book to the revised edition.我覺得原書比修訂本好。

Those Red Army men preferred death to surrender in their struggle with the enemy.在對敵斗爭中,那些紅軍戰(zhàn)士寧死不屈。

2、prefer over sth

例句：

I prefer over this newly-built lab,and you?我比較喜歡這個新建的實驗室,你呢?

They prefer over new works that sing of their life today.他們更喜歡歌頌他們今天生活的新作品。

3、prefer sth.above all others

例句：

I prefer the book above all others.我最喜歡這本書。

The middle-aged man prefers swimming above all others.這位中年人最喜歡游泳。

4、prefer sth

例句：

"Do you like French?""Yes,but I prefer English.""你喜歡法語嗎?""喜歡,但是我更喜歡英語。"

"Which do you prefer,rice or bread?""Either will do.""你比較喜歡吃什么,米飯還是面包?""隨便哪一個都行。"

注:prefer是"比較喜歡,更喜歡"的意思,即like better,因此就不能再與better,more等比較級詞語連用。

8、prefer to do sth.rather than do sth

例句：

These workers prefered to work extra hours at night rather than leave the work until the next week.這些工人寧愿加班干,也不愿把工作留到下一個星期。

注:這種結(jié)構(gòu)中的rather than可以置于句首。例如:

Rather than go on holiday to the seaside I prefer to work days and go to school nights.我寧愿白天工作,晚上上學(xué),而不愿到海邊度假。

注:有時rather可以移至第一個不定式之前,而讓than留在第二個不定式之前,即為prefer rather...than結(jié)構(gòu).這種用法多見于書面語言,在口語中很少用.例如:

9、prefer to do sth.rather than doing sth

例句：

注:有時名詞也可用于rather than之后,這種用法多用以表示在某種具體場合的選擇。例如:
