appear主要用作動詞，既可以用作及物動詞，也可以用作不及物動詞，基本意思是“出現(xiàn)；出版；顯得；好像；登場”。在用法上要注意的是，在以動詞不定式或that從句作主語時，一般須以it作形式主語，放在句首，而將該動詞不定式或that從句置于appear之后。

appear的用法

表示“似乎”“好像”，是連系動詞，其后可接形容詞、名詞、不定式等作表語。

如：He appears(to be)quite rich 他似乎相當富有。

He appears to be living in the area.他似乎就住在這一帶。

It appears(unlikely)that從句It appears unlikely that the UN would consider making such a move看起來聯(lián)合國不太可能考慮采取這樣一種行動。

appear也有“出現(xiàn)，呈現(xiàn)”和“到達”等意思，這時作動詞使用。主語（+副詞）+ appear(+副詞/副詞詞組)。

appear不用于被動語態(tài)是不及物動詞，因此不能有賓語，也不能用于被動語態(tài)。
