定冠詞the用在各種名詞前面，目的是對(duì)這個(gè)名詞做個(gè)記號(hào)，表示它的特指屬性。所以在詞匯表中，定冠詞the的詞義是“這個(gè)，那個(gè)，這些，那些”，可見(jiàn)，the即可以放在可數(shù)名詞前，也可以修飾不可數(shù)名詞，the后面的名詞可以是單數(shù)，也可以是復(fù)數(shù)。

定冠詞的基本用法

(1) 表示對(duì)某人、某物進(jìn)行特指，所謂的特指就是“不是別的，就是那個(gè)！”如：

Thegirl with a red cap is Susan.

戴了個(gè)紅帽子的女孩是蘇珊。

(2) 一旦用到 the，表示談話的倆人都知道說(shuō)的誰(shuí)、說(shuō)的啥。如：

The dog is sick.

狗狗病了。（雙方都知道是哪一只狗）

(3) 前面提到過(guò)的，后文又提到。如：

There is a cat in the tree. The cat is black.

樹(shù)上有一只貓，貓是黑色的。

(4) 表示世界上唯一的事物。如：

The Great Wall is a wonder.

萬(wàn)里長(zhǎng)城是個(gè)奇跡。

(5) 方位名詞前。如：

thenorth of the Yangtze River

(6) 在序數(shù)詞和形容詞最高級(jí)的前面。如：
