the other應(yīng)用于有范圍的情況，例如：there are 40 students in our class. One is an American, the others are Chinese.

用法

一、any other的用法，是指在同一范圍內(nèi)除了某人或某物以外的其他人或事物，any other后跟單數(shù)名詞，也可以說(shuō)any of the other+復(fù)數(shù)名詞。如：

1.Tom runs faster than any other student(或any of the other students)in his class.

湯姆比他班上的任何人都跑得快。

2.Shanghai is langer than any other city in China.

上海比中國(guó)的任何一個(gè)城市都大。

二、the other指兩個(gè)人或物中的一個(gè)時(shí)，只能用the other，不能用another，此時(shí)的other作代詞。如：

He has two daughters. One is a nurse, the other is a worker.

他有兩個(gè)女兒，一個(gè)是護(hù)士，另一個(gè)是工人。

the other后可加單數(shù)名詞，也可加復(fù)數(shù)名詞，此時(shí)的other作形容詞。如：

On the other side of the street，there is a tall tree.

Mary is much taller than the other girls.

瑪麗比其他的女孩高得多。

He lives on the other side of the river.
