not...until的基本含義是直到...才，在...以前不。通常與非延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞連用，當(dāng)其位于句首時(shí),句子要倒裝。

一.not...until基本含義是“直到...才”。

I did not go home until my mother called me.

我直到我媽媽打電話(huà)給我才回家。

Not until Father came back did we begin to have supper last night.

昨晚直到父親回來(lái)，我們才開(kāi)始吃晚飯。

二.not until的倒裝與強(qiáng)調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)，not until通常與非延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞連用，強(qiáng)調(diào)主句所表示的狀態(tài)或情景從until所表示的時(shí)間才發(fā)生，主句必須是否定句。

1.當(dāng)Not until位于句首時(shí),句子要倒裝。其結(jié)構(gòu)為:Not until+從句/表時(shí)間的詞+助動(dòng)詞+(主句)主語(yǔ)+謂語(yǔ)

（1）Not until the teacher came in did the students stop talking.

直到老師進(jìn)來(lái)學(xué)生們才停止講話(huà)。

（2）Not until next week will the sports meet be held.

直到下周才開(kāi)運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)。

2.not until的強(qiáng)調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)為:It is / was not until+從句/表時(shí)間的詞+that

（1）It was not until the teacher came in that the students stopped talking.

（2）It is not until next week that the sports meet will be held.
