other表示別的、另外的，只能與復數(shù)名詞連用。但other前有冠詞the即可與單數(shù)名詞連用。The other表示兩個中的另一個，是特指；another表示三個以上中任意的另一個，是泛指。

another與other的區(qū)別

①Some students like English and other students (others) like physics.

有些學生喜歡英語，有些學生喜歡物理。

這些不定代詞不僅在含義上有單復數(shù)之分，而且在用法上有泛指(無the)和特指(有the)之別。

(1)指單數(shù)：若泛指用another，若特指用the other。如：

He killed the other man in a fight. 他在搏斗中殺死了對手。
